TECHNICAL ASPECT AND USE OF ICT IN WRITING RESEARCH AMONG TERTIARY INSTITUTION STUDENTS

This study aimed to evaluate students’ levels of competency technical aspectsand use of ICT for research writing, as well as the underlying connection betweenthese two variables. This investigation will serve as a basis for faculty to enhancetheir teaching process in a research writing course at the college level. Theresearchers employed cross-sectional analysis with 310 purposively chosenrespondents. They answered a modified research instrument via Google Forms. Theresearchers then subjected the gathered data to descriptive and inferential statisticsusing IBM-SPSS 23. The study found that the students were primarily third-yearlevel, coming from the College of Education, Arts, and Sciences, and were female,with a GPA between 86% and 89%, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.In addition, regarding the technical aspect of writing research, the study revealedthat the students were “ competent.” As for the use of ICT in writing research, thestudents were “ able to perform” some of the mentioned ICT tools. Inferentialstatistics also revealed variations in the technical aspects of writing research whengrouped by year level and GPA. Regarding the use of ICT in research writing, thestudy observed differences in terms of yearlevel, college, GPA, and course. A moderate association was found between technical aspects and the use of ICT in writing research, as confirmed by the linear regression. Based on the study’s results,the researchers suggested some essential implications.
