Fostering Giftedness: Challenges and Opportunities

Gifted students belong to the category of children with special educational needs that need to be met in a family, school, peer and digital environment. The very notion of “special educational needs” points to the question of what characterizes those needs when it is generally known that children with certain developmental disabilities need special educational treatment and that there are usually no special issues with gifted children, and that they meet school standards without more serious difficulties. Stopping at school standards when working with gifted students is a great detriment to the gifted individual and to the society as a whole.
